About Head Coach and Founder - Matt Turnbull

With over 15 years experience as a Performance and Creative Arts teacher, I made the move into multisport and endurance sports in 2011. Starting out, like most, as a fun runner, I quickly 'got the bug' and with in 18 months of dedicated training I had qualified for both European and World Championship Triathlon competitions. My multisport journey has taken me across the world to experience some of the toughest race settings including the Pembrokeshire Mountains during 'Ironman Wales',  freezing temperatures during northern cycling events & open water swimming, to the excruciating pain of ultra endurance events such as 24hr cycling challenges and 26hr ultra marathons.

I have had the privilege of training alongside, and being coached, by such well known and successful multisport athletes as multiple Ironman World Championship Qualifier Elliot Gowland and racing alngisde quality athletes such as Eurpean medal winner Garry Walker. In 2013 I secured a place on the Great British AG Triathlon and Duathlon team and gained a well respected 6th place in the Kitzbuel European Triathlon Finals in 2014 and an 8th place (and 1st Brit in Cat) in the Alcobendas Duathlon Finals in 2015, made all the more significant as on both occasions I had only recently returned for serious injury. In 2015 I did one better and came home 1st Brit and 8th overall in the Madrid European Duathlon Champs and then followed this up with a Bronze medal in 2016 in Germany at the European Sprint Duathlon Championships.

As well as this I  hold a Gold Medal for the National Sprint Relay Triathlon alongside my team mates Garry Walker, Matthew Fearn and Chris Philpott from my previous racing team 'Coalfields RT'. In 2014 I was awarded 3rd place at the Northern Duathlon Grand Prix Championships which consisted of athletes made up from every duathlon race held in the North East during the 2014 season. After this I took my sporting success to new heights in the 2016 season when, in just one week, I achieved a coveted double of podiums with a European Sprint Bronze Medal and a National Standard Distance Silver Medal.

With my passion growing for sport and athlete development, I took the step to gain professional qualifications in 2014 and secured my Level 2 Triathlon Coaching  Badge to support athletes at at my hoke town club "Tri-Life Triathlon Team". This allowed me to coach both new and experienced athletes in areas of swim training, run training, cycle training and planning for races with elements of technical understanding, equipment and transitioning.

In 2017 I took on a challenge to show how planning, nutrition and key knowledge of sports, recovery and inflammation would prove integral to ultra distance events and completed 7 IRONMANS IN 7 DAYS, raising £10,000 for the Tiny Lives Trust. This entailed 2 years of planning and nealry 1000 hours of swim bike and run in only 7 days. I was able to complete this feat injury AND blister free and maintained weight thoughout the process with an average of 15 yrs a day to complete all sections.

I have  taken my formal qualification in coaching, analysis, nutrition and personal training to the next level to give my athletes the best support and knowledge possible, and have gained Level 3 qualification as a "High Performance Triathlon Coach" - one of the first in the UK. I balance this part of his career with a growing multisport retail and accessory business and a nutrition, health and well being products company that I run with my wife Kelly. Not content with an already hectic lifestyle, I still work as a professional actor and Arts teacher as well as my number one job, responsibility and passion; my children Dylan and Ben!

For my contributions and efforts, I was awarded Sports Personality of the Year for Hpool District in 2017 as well as Role Model of the Year by Hartlepool Mail, and in 2018 I was awarded Coach of the Year as well.
